Mechanic shop floor cleaning in Toronto means getting oil, coolant and hydraulic fluid out of the concrete without sending it down the floor drain. We degrease bay by bay with 200F hot water and degreaser, recover every litre of oily water with our hydrovac, and keep the rest of the shop working while we do it.
Why Do Shop Floors Get So Slippery?
Every oil change, coolant flush and hydraulic repair leaves a little behind. Absorbent and sweeping pick up the surface puddle, but a thin film soaks into the concrete and builds up over months. Around lifts and work benches, floors turn dark and slick, especially when wet. In winter, salt and slush from customer vehicles add grit and white residue at bay doors.
Slippery floors are a safety issue for technicians. Hosing them into a floor drain overloads the oil-water separator and risks sending contaminants further down the line.

How Do Shop Cleaning Programs Work?
Contract and pricing table
| Option | Scope | Pricing |
|---|---|---|
| Single bay | One heavily soiled bay | Written quote |
| Full shop | All bays and aprons | Per bay rate |
| Monthly or quarterly | Recurring bay degreasing | Fixed per-visit rate, 12 months |
COI delivery in 24 hours
Dealerships, fleet operators and landlords receive a COI with $2M liability and WSIB clearance within one business day.
Hydrovac wastewater containment (Toronto Municipal Code 681)
Oily wash water must not go to the storm system and should not overload your separator. We cover floor drains, contain each bay and vacuum the water into our hydrovac tank for proper disposal.
When Should a Shop Book Floor Cleaning?
- Monthly or quarterly, depending on volume
- After winter, to clear salt and slush residue at bay doors
- Before an insurance, landlord or manufacturer inspection
- After a large fluid spill, through our oil spill cleanup service
How Much Does Mechanic Shop Floor Cleaning Cost?
Pricing is per bay or per visit, depending on size and soiling. You get the quote in writing, and recurring service locks the rate for 12 months.
Common Shop Floor Problems We Solve
Slick film around lifts
Oil and hydraulic fluid build up around lift posts and under vehicles. Hot-water degreasing removes the film and makes the area safer to walk and work in.
Coolant and transmission fluid stains
Coloured fluid stains spread across bays during flushes and repairs. They respond well to degreaser and heat.
Absorbent residue
Clay absorbent picks up spills but leaves a gritty, greasy layer when it is swept. Washing removes the residue that brooms leave behind.
Salt and slush at bay doors
In winter, vehicles bring in salt, sand and slush that dry into a white crust at each door. Hot water clears it and protects the floor.
Dark, unsealed concrete
Old unsealed floors soak up years of oil. Degreasing will brighten them considerably. Sealing or coating after cleaning makes future cleaning easier, and we can recommend timing.
Bay-by-Bay Scheduling
We work one or two bays at a time, usually in the evening or on a Sunday. Each bay is cleared, drains are covered, degreaser is applied and allowed to work, then 200F water lifts the oil while the hydrovac recovers it. The bay dries and reopens before we move on, so the rest of the shop keeps running and technicians can return to their stations quickly.
Protecting Your Oil-Water Separator
Many shops route floor drains to an oil-water separator. A full washdown can overwhelm it and push oil downstream. By recovering water at the surface, we keep the separator working as designed. If it is due for service, our truck can vacuum it during the same visit, and our sister brand, Hydrovac Toronto, handles larger separator programs.
Mop and Scrubber vs Hot-Water Degreasing
Mops and auto scrubbers are great for daily upkeep, but they mostly move a thin oil film around and leave it in the pores of the concrete. Over months, the floor darkens and gets slick. A periodic hot-water degrease pulls oil out of the surface and resets the floor, so daily cleaning works properly again. Most shops pair daily scrubbing with monthly or quarterly professional degreasing.
Shop Floor Cleaning Across the GTA
Our GTA power and pressure washing crews clean repair shops and fleet garages along the Golden Mile in Scarborough, in the South Etobicoke industrial corridor in Etobicoke, and across Mississauga, Brampton and Vaughan. Larger industrial floors are covered by warehouse washout, and fuel retailers by gas station power washing. See our commercial power washing program for multi-location contracts.
