Construction site wash and vac in Toronto keeps active sites from becoming the neighbourhood’s least favourite address. We wash mud tracked onto roads and sidewalks and vacuum the slurry straight into our hydrovac tank, so it never reaches a catch basin. Weekly visits keep the street clean through the messiest phases.
Why Is Tracked Mud a Problem for Contractors?
Every truck leaving an excavation carries mud on its tires. It drops onto the road at the exit and spreads down the block. In dry weather it becomes dust; in wet weather it becomes slippery slurry that washes into catch basins. Neighbours complain, cyclists slip, and inspectors notice sediment in the storm system.
Sweeping helps with loose material, but the thin film that remains turns back into slurry with the next rain. Washing the road without recovering the water makes the problem worse, because it sends all of that sediment straight into the drains, which is what Toronto Municipal Code 681 is designed to prevent.
What Is Included in Construction Site Wash and Vac?
- Road and lane washing at site exits and along affected stretches
- Sidewalk and curb cleaning around hoarding and entrances
- Slurry vacuum recovery with our hydrovac
- Catch basin protection with covers or filter bags during washing
- Catch basin extraction when sediment has already entered

How Do Site Wash and Vac Programs Work?
Contract and pricing table
| Program | When it suits | Pricing |
|---|---|---|
| One-time clean | After a pour, rain event or complaint | Written quote |
| Weekly recurring | Excavation and foundation phases | Fixed per-visit rate |
| Bundled | With post-construction power washing | Bundled rate |
COI delivery in 24 hours
General contractors and developers receive a COI naming them as additional insured, with $2M liability and WSIB clearance, within one business day.
Hydrovac wastewater containment (Toronto Municipal Code 681)
The vacuum side of wash and vac is what makes it compliant. Our hydrovac recovers the mud and water we wash off the road, and the load is disposed of properly. It is the same equipment our sister brand, Hydrovac Toronto, uses for hydro excavation.
When Should a Site Book Wash and Vac?
- Weekly during excavation, when truck traffic and mud are heaviest
- After large pours or wet weather
- Before inspections or community meetings
- When a neighbour or the City raises a complaint
How Much Does Construction Site Wash and Vac Cost?
Pricing is per visit, in writing, based on the length of road and sidewalk, mud volume and timing. Weekly rates are fixed, and bundling with post-construction power washing at handover lowers the total.
Common Site Problems We Solve
Mud tracked down the block
Trucks leaving an excavation carry mud well past the site entrance. We wash the affected stretch of road and sidewalk, not just the apron in front of the gate.
Slurry in catch basins
Once mud reaches a catch basin, it settles in the sump and passes into the storm system. Basins near the site are covered during washing and extracted when needed.
Dust in dry weather
Dried mud turns to dust that blows onto neighbours’ cars and windows. Regular washing keeps the road surface clean before it dries out and lifts.
Concrete washout residue
Grey concrete slurry from pours and truck washouts stains roads and sidewalks. It must be recovered, not rinsed away, and our hydrovac handles it.
Complaints from neighbours and the City
A clean frontage is the fastest way to calm complaints. Timestamped photos from each visit also show the site is maintaining the road.
How a Wash and Vac Visit Works
- The crew covers or bags nearby catch basins.
- Loose material is scraped and swept from the worst areas.
- The road, curb and sidewalk are washed with cold-water pressure.
- The hydrovac vacuums the slurry from the curb line and low spots as we go.
- Photos are taken before and after for the site file.
Visits are timed around truck traffic, usually first thing in the morning or at the end of the work day.
Working With Your Sediment Control Plan
Wash and vac complements, rather than replaces, the measures on your sediment control plan, such as construction entrance mats, silt fences and catch basin filters. It handles what gets past those measures. Weekly visits during excavation and foundation work, then on-call visits during quieter phases, are the most common pattern.
